Pediatrics is a branch of medicine that focuses on the well-being and medical care of newborns, young children, and teenagers from the time of their birth until the age of eighteen.
A pediatrician doctor who treats children and offers preventative healthcare for children who are otherwise healthy as well as medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill. A pediatrician is responsible for overseeing the physical, mental, and emotional health of children under their care at all stages of development and in both health and illness.
Neonatology is dedicated to the medical care of newborn infants, especially those who were ill or delivered prematurely. The most common types of patients seen by neonatologists include newborns who are ill or require special medical care because of pre-term conditions, low birth weight, intrauterine growth restriction, congenital abnormalities (birth defects), sepsis, pulmonary hypoplasia, or birth asphyxia.
